Update

It’s with great pleasure that I announce that LBCi has meet its fundraising goal for the 2011 year.  Thanks to the generous support of our benefactors and unwavering dedication of our volunteer staff, our work in Lam Son and Cu Chi will move forward.  We’re proud to say that LBCi continues employ a team of physical therapists for Thien Duyen and is in the process of developing a special physical therapy room for the Lam Son clinic.  As this year was an exceptionally difficult year for the non-profit sector, we are doubly proud of staff and grateful to all those who continue to believe in that work that we do.

The staff at LBCi realize that we really haven’t been using this website to communicate with our supporters and benefactors. In an effort to allow you to stay more informed of our current projects and to keep us more accountable, we’re going to start publishing updates more frequently.  Stay tuned.

Your ED,
Andy

About LBCi:

Life Beyond Circumstances International (LBCi) is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization working to improve the health, nutrition, and quality of life for the disabled and disadvantaged children of Vietnam.  What distinguishes LBCI from other similar non-profits is its commitment to making long-term investment, not short-term donations.

LBCi adopts each orphanage for at least three years. We invest in renovating the orphanage and work directly with the orphanage to implement sustainable, institutional changes to the daily function of the orphanage.  We hire teams of local physical therapists and specialists to develop and implement nutritional, physical, and cognitive therapy programs. Focusing primarily on children suffering from cerebral palsy or hydrocephalus, our curricula aims not only to prevent muscular and neurological deterioration, but also to enhance the child’s mobility and optimize the child’s overall cognitive function.

Poverty and associated health, nutrition, and social factors prevent at least 200 million children in developing countries from attaining their developmental potential.  Disabled children in Vietnam must face a worse consequence.  Deprived of the proper care and attention, a disabled child in Vietnam face a high risk of never achieving his or her growth potential.  Denied the tactile and cognitive stimulations so critical for optimal infant and adolescent growth, disabled children in Vietnam must confront towering limitations against their physical and neurological development.

LBCi was started by a group of pre-professional and professional students from the University of California, Irvine.  LBCi believes that only through long term collaborative efforts can one hope to bring the technical advantages and medical merits of American medicine to care for the children of Vietnam.  But more importantly, we believe that every child deserves a life beyond circumstances.  Please keep us in your hearts and minds this holiday season.  For more information, please feel free to contact me at the address and email below.  As we are based purely on volunteerism, 90% of all donations to LBCi will go directly to aiding the children.

Please keep us in mind this holiday season.  From all of us at LBCi,  MERRY CHRISTMAS AND HAPPY NEW YEAR!
